To take care of our planet has become the struggle of our century. Wildlife is threatened: the rainforest is shrinking; animal species are fighting against extinction; the humanity is struggling to limit global warming.
100 years after The Spanish Flu, the COVID-19 pandemic is again showing us how vulnerable our world is in times of pandemics. Several scientists are warning us: reduction of biodiversity and nature destruction are enabling spread of diseases and changing the patterns of disease transmission. Are pandemics the new normal?
In this webinar we are exploring the topics biodiversity and the connection between destruction of nature and pandemics with speakers Kim Gruetzmacher and Ernst Kristian Rødland.
Kim Gruetzmacher is a Wildlife Conservation Veterinarian and Researcher. She received her PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin and has worked for several conservation NGOs, including the Wildlife Conservation Society, WWF, Ocean Alliance, and others. She has broad work and research experience on disease dynamics at the human-wildlife-interface and the importance of biodiversity for planetary health.
Ernst Kristian Rødland is a Doctor of Medicine with specialisation in internal medicine/infectious diseases and Senior Medical Officer at The Norwegian Institute of Public Health. He received his PhD at the University of Oslo and his wide-ranging research interests include Antimicrobial Resistance and Infection Prevention.
The webinar is free of charge and open for everyone.
